HEAVY SNOWSTORM
Traffic Held Up In North Of England LONDON, March 3. It is now possible to give details of the worst snowstorm which this country has known for half a century. It occurred in the north of England a fortnight ago and put a halt to railway and road traffic in many areas and dislocated telephones. There was a landslide in County Durham which stopped a number of trains. ■ The marooned passengers were fed with sausage rolls, and goat’s milk was found for the children. One soldier who was helping to dig away snowdrifts ten feet deep in Yorkshire said that hundreds of troops had to dig al! day through a blizzard and go on guard duty up to their waists in snow.
