STILL AWAITING INSTRUCTIONS
French And Thailand Delegations
JAPAN’S MODIFIED PROPOSALS
LONDON, March 4.
Reuter's Tokio correspondent says that the French and Thailand delegations were today still awaiting instructions from their Governments about Japan’s modified proposals for a settlement of the Thailand-Indio China dispute.
The official Japanese spokesman told a Press conference that the outlook for the negotiations was hopeful. At the same time he deprecated too much optimism. Japan was anxious to bring the peace talks to a successful conclusion by Friday. Sir Robert Craigie, the British Ambassador in Tokio, has denied the Japanese Press statements that 20,000 Chungking troops had moved into Burma recently to strengthen the defences. His statement has been the subject of an official Japanese statement, which says that Sir Robert Craigie has made it clear that no plan exists for the entry of troops into Burma.
