OASIS IN LIBYA
Captured By Free French I Forces
LONDON,. March 2.
General de Gaulle has received a message that Free French forces from Chad and the Cameroons have captured the Kufra Oasis, in southern Libya. Kufra surrendered on Saturday and the operation yielded 1000 prisoners and important war material The Free French troops had been besieging the Italian garrison since February 1, and the news of its fall comes through the High Commissioner for the Free French in Africa. Kufra is the centre of hundreds of square miles of barren desert, and is an important Italian air base linking up with Abyssinia.
