ACTION ACCEPTED

Address In Bulgarian Parliament PEACEFUL POLICY SOFIA, March 2. With the streets of Sofia swarming with German soldiers, the Bulgarian Parliament by an absolute majority ratified the adherence to the Tripartite Pact. Five members, who demanded a debate, were shouted down.

The Prime Minister, Professor Filoff, who had returned from Vienna, told Parliament that Germany had requested consent for sending the troops to Bulgaria and the German Government had also declared that the task of these troops would be of limited duration and was aimed at maintenance of peace in the Balkans.

The Reich, he said, had not asked Bulgaria to do anything clashing with Bulgaria’s peaceful policy or her obligations to her neighbours. On the contrary Germany had expressly taken into consideration Bulgaria’s treaties of friendship and also the Turco-Bul-garian declaration. After weighing all the circumstances, and also, desiring to safeguard her vital rights, Bulgaria had agreed to Germany’s request after receiving an assurance that the existing law and ordSY would be maintained in the highest degree.

Professor Flloff added: "The presence of German troops in no wise changes the peaceful policy of Bulgaria, which is determined to refrain from any measures threatening the interests of anyone.”
