'■ln my view you were partly under the influence of alcoholic liquor, though not to sui'h an extent as to justify the police in prosecuting you tor being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. My view, however, is that Hie accident would not have occurred but for the jnllueiiee of the liquor.' said Mr. Jus lice Smith in the Supreme Gouri today. when imposing sentence on George Clark, Wanganui. Clark had made a plea for leniency in the sentences on two charges arising from an accident, the first of failing to stop. and. Hie second of failing to ascertain il anyone was injured.
<>n lhe first count Clark was sentenced lo imprisonment tor four weeks withoiil hard labour, and on | lie second count, which was involved in Hie first. In- was convicted and ordeerd to come up for sentence it called mi within one mmil li.
