HOTEL HOURS
Queensland Restriction For some years the Queensland hotels have- been permitted to serve liquor in their bars until 11 o’clock at night. Early last month the Government issued an order that the legal hour of closing, eight o'clock in the evening, would be rigidly enforced. That resulted in isome brawls in which soldiers took part at the instigation, perhaps, of interested civilians. To some extent that was probably responsible for the establishment of wet canteens at the military encampments, and a very rigid picketing of hotels. The Premier has announced that no alteration in the hours is contemplated, that no referendum on the subject will be held, and that the present Act will be strictly enforced. The enforcement of the Act is supported by most of the reputable hotels.
