School Commandeered For Military Purposes ( Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February Pa. "It is an absolute scandal, and we should pester Hie department til! we get satisfaction.” declared Mr. S. B. Sims at the Auckland Eiii’.cation Board meeting today when a letter was submitted from lhe Hamilton Primary Schools lleadmastei's’ Association protesting against the commandeering of the Hamilton West school for military purposes. It was stated that provision could be made for soldiers without taking over schools. Air. Sims said the new school was standing empty, having been reserved as a' hospital for soldiers. "There are 1(H) beds in lhe school awaiting probable patients,” he said. "It is wrong that this should be [lermitted when there is ample ground at Hit' Waikato Hospital to build an auxiliary hospital, as is being done in other centres.” The chairman, Mr. AV. J. Campbell, said the best way would-be to send a telegram to the department. "AVe always get a reply to a wire,” he added. Mr. Sims said the school had been standing empty since before Christmas while tiie pupils were crowded into the old school. Unless something was done the position would continue indefinitely.
