Pakihikura lihve Fair

Dominion Special Service. I'ALMEItSTON N., February IS. What was described as the niosl successful ewe fair so far this season was held in L’akihikura. There was a large gathering of buyers from the Waikato, Taihape, H unterville. Marton, Bulls, Hawke's Bay and Manawatu districts, who were keenly interested in the offering of COO) sheep, comprising K»(X) tw<»tooth ewes, 4000 four, live and six-year-old ewes ami 500 two-tooth wethers on account of local settlers. The Bakihikura ewes, which are bred on hilly country, are renownod for their breeding and strong constitution, and this season’s annual drafts came forward in excellent order and condition. The quality was freely commented on during the day. Outstanding ewe<s included slr. N. Short’s 410 aged marked four-year-olds, a beautifully bred line, tHe top pen realizing the good price of 30/-, and the balance 27/-. Mr. Short’s two-tooth ewes were also of exceptionally good quality, the tops selling up to *37/-. Mr. L. Mead’s annual draft of four-year-old owes was also an attractive lino which keen competition, changing hands at 25/2. The sale opened on the two-tooth ewes, followed bv the older sheep. Competition throughout was keen, and a total clearance was effected, realizations all round showing a definite improvement on recent sales. The principal sales are:— A/y. N. J.
