A SUMMARY OF THE SITUATION
Another important part of the defences of Keren, on the Eritrean railway, has fallen to the Indian troops. New progress has been made in the thrusts to the north and south. General Cavallero has now made 50 counter-attacks against the Greeks in Albania and none of them has gained him an inch ql "round. Further Greek advances are reported. Balkans events appear to give substantially the same picture aon the previous day. German forces continue crossing Hungary t< their Rumanian base in large numbers and their preparations on 'he Bulgarian frontier are again noted. Bulgaria is believed to be feverishly attempting to persuade Turkey to remain within bci frontier as the Germans approach, in the ho|te that this would aven the war from their territories.
The Chief of Spain, General Franco, has had discussions in Italy with Mussolini. Madrid announces that the talks were marked by identity of views between the leaders at this present historii moment. 'Franco is yet to meet Marshal Petain in France.. I' iMated in London that the initiative for the Italian meeting evidently came from Mussolini. At the same time it is conjectured that Franco has suggested a Latin bloc. However, there appears no disposition to expect any momentous result from the talks.
