MAY LOSE VOTES

Electors Transferred To Hutt City THREE-MONTH PROVISION With the proposed inclusion after April 1 of part of the Hutt County iu the Lower Hutt city area, an anomalous situation has arisen concerning voting by electors now residing iu that part of the county at the municipal elections in May. The present law is that electors must have a three months’ residential qualification before they can vote within the area of the local body upon wiiose roll they wish to be entered. As the electors concerned will come within the city area as from April 1 and the elections are to be held in May, they obviously cannot comply with this condition, and it would appear that failing some amendment to the existing law they will be disfranchized. The Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash, who is M.P. for Hutt, said yesterday that this question had been brought to the attention of the Government and was receiving consideration. Ratepayer electors are not affected by the anomoly.
