Items Of Interest From The Provinces YACHT TE RAPUNGA Dibbern Not Intending To Sell Dominion Special Service. The yacht Te Kapunga. in which Caplain George Dibbern and Mbs Eileen Morris. Napier, have been* cruising lhe Pacific for the past five or six years, and in which they recently returned to Napier. is not for saJe. an offer tyy Mr. 11. Ward. Auckland, having been rejected. Captain Dibbern regards the yacht as his home, though at present she is lying al Nelson Quay. Port Ahuriri. under the watch of the Customs Department, which is awaiting a decision about her future.

Repairs to Carterton Gasworks. A special meeting last night of the gas committee of the Carterton Borough Council considered tenders for the rebuilding and arching of six new rpiorl.s at the gasworks. The tender of E. Rabbidge, Ltd.. Wellington. £(>SO. was accepted. Tenders are to be called for the rebuilding of a new concrete tar storage tank at the gasworks.

New Catholic School Opens. There was a roll number of G2 and an allendance of 59 when the new Hastings secondary school, lhe St. John < atholic High School for boys, was opened for (he first time. The pupils include boys from Napier and Taradale. The pupils were welcomed by the principal. the Rev. Father J. W. Dowling, ami the official opening ceremony will rake place early next month.

Wanganui Supreme Court Session. Four criminal case** are listed for trial at the first session of the Supreme Court, Wanganui, for 1941. which will open on Monday before Mr. Justice Smith. There is one prisoner for sentence. The civil list is comparatively small. Only three cases are set down for hearing, two before a judge and jury of 12, and one before a judge alone. Main Highway Detour. While tar-sealing operations are in hand on the Otane-Waipawa section of the main highway a detour is necessary through Otane township. Errors are being made by motorists as to the extent of the detour, and it is pointed out that it is necessary to travel at least two mileo before the main highway is regained. Rifles For Home Guard.

Surprise has been expressed at the number of privately-owned service rifles which were brought on request to parades of units of the Home Guard in Hawke’s Bay. With the limited supply of .303 rifles provided by the Defence Department, the presence of guardsmen’s own rifles on parades greatly aids training operations. Further supplies of Government rifles are expected shortly.
