Wellington Centre Veterans’ Day

HUTT TAKES TROPHY

Yesterday the Wellington Bowling Centre held its annual afternoon tournament for the old men of the game. One hundred and thirty players of the game aged over 70 gathered at the Wellington club's greens, clubs from as far away as I'aekakariki being represented by fours. The day was sunny and everything conduced to enjoyable play. The president of the centre, Mr. T. Lock, represented the centre, welcoming players and presenting the trophy at the conclusion of the games to the successful four, the Hutt rink, skipped by Laker. The secretary of the centre, Air. A. F. Spiller, managed the tournament. The oldest player was S. Lodge, aged 89, lead in one of the Eastbourne fours. He had the honbur of playing the first bowl. P. Christensen, Wellington, threw up the first ‘kitty. The winners of this day are the players who inflict the biggest defeat on whoever happen to be their opponents, only one series of games of 21 ends being played. Laker, the successful skip yesterday, skipped- the Victoria rink that won on Veterans’ Day in 1935.
