AMATEUR ATHLETICS

No Inter-Services Meeting Advice was received by the management committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last night from Army Headquarters that it regretted, because of urgent war work, it could not fall in line with the suggestion that an inter-services athletic meeting should be held. The Air Department had also been consulted and was of the same opinion. The president, Mr. A. C. Kitto, said it had been hoped to give athletes in eamp something to look forwaid to. All would regret this was not possible. This, of course, would not stop soldiers from participating, at centre interclub meetings when possible, and all centres were doing what was possible to cater for athletes iu the forces. The Otago Centre advised that it intended to include a junior hammer throwing event, in its programme on February 15 and asked the council to set a standard. It was decided to set the standard at 140 feet. Jt was agreed that Iho council should endeavour io revise the junior standards after the New Zealand championship meeting. The standard for 15 miles was fixed at Ihr. 27min. As some confusion appeared to exist eoncerning the rule covering the survey of an established track for record purposes, it was decided to advise centres immediately that the council’s interpretation of rule number two bearing on records was now that the two officials mentioned could sign a declaration that the track had been surveyed only in the case of a certified track. Mr. H. I. Austad gave notice that he would move for an amendment in the rule. There were present Messrs. A. C. Kitto (president), A. L. Stevens, T. Mills, V. R. Walker. D. Woodfield. D. Macpherson, .1. A. Gassen, H. I. Austad. S. G. Leeder, W. J. Holley, and H. McCormick (honorary secretary).
