Mr. And Mrs. Hugh Osborne, Feilding On February 2, 1881, Miss Mary

Brown, Taikorea. was married by the town clerk of Palmerston North to Mr. Hugh Osborne, and on Sunday last at their home, Lethbridge Street, Feilding. this couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary. Mrs. Osborne, who is almost. 79, came to New Zealand as a small child from Australia, where she was born. Mr. Osborne, who is SI, was born at Tawa Flat. They lived at Lower Aoraugi for four years, then at the Tahoraite mill, near Dannevirke, for two years, then at Ashhurst for two years, after which they went, to Apiti, where they remained for 46 years till they retired and went to live in Feilding six years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Osborne celebrated their diamond wedding quietly with a few members of the family. It had been hoped to arrange a large family gathering, but of late Mrs. Osborne has not'had good health, and recently several children visited their parents, as it was thought wiser not to have a large gathering. Of the family of 14, 13 live in various parts of New Zealand. and one sou. Robert, was killed in Palestine during tho Great War. There are 51 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. The youngest daughter. Mrs. IV. R. Pratt, Apiti, made a. beautiful wedding cake which Mrs. Osborne cut and will send pieces to each member of the family who was not present on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Osborne, who were highly-esteemed residents of Apiti, received many congratulatory messages and telegrams, the first being from Mr. D. IValls, Apiti, who was present at both their silver and golden wedding celebrations, which were held in Apiti.

Mr. and Mrs. Osborne’s home has always been the centre of generous hospitality and they are both staunch members of the Methodist Church. During their years in Apiti they gave liberal support to every worthy cause and Mr. Osborne was ehairman of the first Apiti School committee and worked hard for the school for many years. He was also a Pohangina County councillor for a long period. Members of the family are: Mesdames W. D. McKay (Taumarunui). William McKay (Apiti). O. R. Jepseu (Levin). L. Fenemore (Taumarunui). N. E. Webb (I’elorous Sound). P. R. Munro (Auckland). W. R. Pratt (Apiti). and Messrs. H. L. Osborne (Kimbolton). Charles (Taumarunui), Hugh (Auckland), AV. J. (Apiti), R. (Pelorous Sound) and M. J. (Auckland).
