PATRIOTIC CONCERT
“Merrie England” To Be Sung One of the first major events of the new musical season in Wellington will be a grand patriotic concert which is being arranged by the Wellington Royal Choral Union. This concert, to take place in the Town Hall in April, will consist of the performance in its entirety (minus the dialogue) of Edward German’s light opera ''Merrie England.” a work which rather aptly envisages the spirit of England. This work without, the “book” does not. itatrke, a full evening's -entertainment. 'l'o extend the programme to the usual length the union’s fine chorus and orchestra will be heard in several national songs attuned to the spirit of the day. Lalor in the year the union will oiwm its subscription concerts with a performance of Mascagni’s grtrml opera (concert version), "Cavalleria Rusticana,” which lias not been heard in Wellington for a number of years.
