WHISKY AND GIN SHORTAGE

Position In Wellington Ever since the shortage of whisky and gin became known, Wellington hotels and merchants have been besieged with inquiries. With the approach of New Year there has been the usual last-minute demand for whisky, but so great is the shortage that in the bottle stores of one-third of the leading hotels it is no longer possible to obtain supplies. Gin appears to be more plentiful than whisky.

Draught whisky and gin can still be bought at one store, but no case. At another store whisky can be obtained by regular customers only. The shortage is caused in part by the delay in the arrival of consignments and by the import allocations being reduced by 50 per cent, in the current licensing period.
