WOMAN KILLED
Motor-cars In Collision At Waikanac ONE DRIVER INJURED A woman was killed and a man was severely injured in a motor ear accident which occurred about 10 a.m. on Saturday at the intersection in Waikanae of tlie Akatarawa Road with the main highway. The woman, who difijl shortly after frq.m severe head injuries, was Mrs. Jean Smith, Palmerston North, and the injured man was her husband, Mr. Kenneth Smith, c/o Smith and Alley, George Street, Palmerston North. He received a broken left collarbone and other severe injury. His condition was reported to be not serious. It is stated-that Mr. and Mrs. Smith were married only a few days ago. The accident occurred when Mr. .Smith, who was travelling north behind a large , Railways Department road motor service bus. turned his car to enter the Akatarawa Road and came into collision with a service car going south. Dr. D. O. Paterson, Paraparaumu. was called and had Mrs. Smith conveyed to a nearby house, where she died. Mr. Smith was taken to Palmerston North Hospital.. The driver of the service car was unhurt. Both cars were damaged and had to be towed away.
An inquest on Mrs. Smith was opened before Mr. G. H. Harper, J.P., Otaki. on Saturday afternoon, and after formal evidence of identification, was adjourned sine die.
