SHIP MAKING WATER SLIGHTLY

Inspection By Diver SENT TO PORT CHALMERS TO DRY DOCK Dominion Special Service CHRISTCHURCH, December 29.. After her arrival at Lyttelton this afternoon, the Rangatira was found to be making water slightly. After she had been inspected by the LytteltonHarbour Board’s diver, it was decided to send her to Port Chalmers for drydocking, and she will sail from Lyttelton later. The Wahine, which made a daylight trip from Wellington, arrived at 7.30 p.m., and sailed on the return trip an hour later, taking up the Rangatira’s scheduled trip. Stewards and stewardesses on board the Rangatira paid off on arrival at Lyttelton, and sailed for Wellington by the Wahine to join the Maori when she recommissions tomorrow. Smart work was carried out by the staff of the Christchurch Post Office in dealing with the large mails carried by the Rangatira. The mails reached the office about 7 o’clock. Before 10 o’clock 'the southern mails had been sorted for the Dunedin express, and city mails prepared for the morning deliveries. Before the task was completed a further large mail arrived from Wellington by the Wahine.
