Over 1000 Buildings Hit By Bombs YEAR OF SPIRITUAL GAINS LONDON, December 26. The Church of England Press Bureau states that over 1900 churches, schools, halls, and vicarages have been destroyed or damaged as the result, of enemy action, besides the destruction of Coventry Cathedral and damage to Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s, Canterbury and Liverpool Cathedrals, and famous churches already mentioned. To set against these losses, adds the bureau, there have been great spiritual gains. In 1940 there were many signs that the war had touched the deeper springs of British national character. The Press and other media of national expression reflected increasing signs of religious revival, particularly in a universal stirring of hearts on May 26 and 'September 8 when the King called his peoples to prayer.
