American Co-operation With New Zealand (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, December 27. To take up a position trt the American Consolate, Wellington, Mr. Robert English arrived by the Mariposa, accompanied by Mrs. English. Mr. English has .been secretary to the United States Legation at Ottawa for three years and a' half. Mrs. English is a daughter of the American Ambassador to Japan. Mr. Joseph Clark Grew. Mr. English has been in the consular service of the United States for 14 years, stationed at Algiers, Gibraltar, Istanbul, Bangkok, and Budapest, and before that .at Paris. He said that the Permanent Joint Defence Board established by Canada and the United States was considering the protection of certain hemispheres. It was the desire of the United States to co-operate closely with New Zealand because this Dominion was looked upon as an important strategic point in the future of the Pacific. Mr. Wesley Frost, of the American consular service at Santiago, was expected to arrive at ’Wellington shortly to take the place of Mr. Pinkerton, Mr. English said.
