TWO RECITALS

Patriotic Funds Benefit

Two enjoyable recitals for patriotic funds have been presented in Lower Hutt recently by pupils of Mrs. Noel Taylor. The recitals were given on successive Friday nights at the home of Mrs. A. E. Milne, Cambridge Terrace. The pupils taking part were: Mesdames Cotter, F. Rotter, G. Culloty, Turner and E. 1. Hubbard, Misses Valerie Shorter, Colyn Hynes, Joy Kirkus, Joan Akers, Peggy Milne, Molly Wills, Edith Pryde, Audrey Robins, Evelyn Simmons, Nora Treseder, Mary Hart, B. Parker, Ngaire Treseder. Rae lorns, Louis Leggott, Jean and Beth Kennedy, Joan Barber, Margaret Richmond, Hilda Deal and Alice Nicholson, I. Williamson and Spence, Messrs. A. _ W. Treseder, E. Marshall and J. W. Miller. On a recent occasion the pianoforte pupils entertained the singing pupils at Mrs. Taylor’s home in King’s Crescent, when Mr. Barber congratulated Mrs. Taylor on her successful year’s work with her pupils, and on their behalf made her a presentation. Two recitals were also given during the year for the funds of the Lower Hutt branch of the Plunket Society. Song Recital. An enjoyable evening was spent by parents and friends recently when Signora Zoe Comparini presented her pupils in a song recital of outstanding merit at the N.Z.E.I. rooms, Willis Street, Wellington. The programme consisted of operatic numbers, Christmas carols, part songs, solos, duets, trios and a dainty minuet number in charming pastel-tinted costumes. Interspersed with the songs were pianoforte duets and solos, and by special request Signora Comparini sang botlij Awakes my Heart,” from “Samson and Delilah,” and the contrasting "Ships of Arcady” as an encore. Those taking part were Mr. and Mrs. IL Kavwood, Mr. W. Dymond, Master Ivan Lawson, aud Misses June Bush, Pat O’Halloran, Phoebe Lawson, Beryl Desmond. Pat Collins, Bessie llul, Moira O’Connor, Ngaire O’Sullivan, and .Margaret Leask. Miss Kathleen Geisking assisted with the accompaniments and contributed two solos. Signora Comparini received many beautiful bouquets from pupils and friends, and Miss Geisking received a small token of appreciation with a bouquet from Signora Comparini. Each performer received a small bouquet ot sweets, besides many tokens from parents and friends.
