FINANCE REGULATIONS AN OBSTACLE Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N., December 27. Mr. Charles Lucas, the boxing promoter who assisted the Manawatu Boxing Association in staging the bout between Maurice Strickland and the Alabama Kid in ■Palmerston North last night, has cabled Ron Richards, the well-known Australian light-heavy-weight, inviting him to meet Strickland in Wellington shortly. Witli that end in view Strickland, after a brief rest, intends to start light training again at an early date. The main obstacle to be overcome in the promotion of the StricklandRichards bout is that Richards will be unable to take his share of the purse out of New Zealand, but the present proposal is that Strickland takes over Richards’s share of the Wellington purse aud give Richards an equivalent amount in Australian money after a return bout that is also mooted to be held in Australia. First Fight Against Left-Hander. In an interview in Palmerston North this morning, Strickland’s manager, Mr J. Crowley, said Strickland attributed his win to the excellence of his physical condition as much as to his boxing ability. The bout with the Alabama Kid was the New Zealander’s first match against a left-hander, and though to those who saw the fight Strickland’s performance was excellent, .Mr. Crowley said Strickland considered he did not box as well as he had in America. The 15 mouths that had elapsed since his previous ring appearance had left hint a little out of form, but last night’s bout would do a lot to bring him back to the peak of his condition. Mr. Crowley said Strickland enjoyed the bout, and both manager and boxer were overwhelmed with the hospitality extended to them by the Manawatu Boxing Association.
