Clerical Workers’ Award
Sir, —A new clerical award lias just come into operation as from July 1, and in those businesses where a 44-hour week is permitted the clerks are now to lie limited to a 40-hour week, or be paid four hours’ overtime at ordinary rates, in addition to the weekly wage.
The Minister of Finance is urging increased production—-but how absurd it all appears to be, when at the same time the working week of the clerks is to be reduced by four hours. Verily, the ways of tlie Government are wonderful! What absolute folly in reducing the working hours at a time like this! —I atn, etc.,’ INCONSISTENT. Wellington, July 2.
