SPECIAL TOURS
Should .Be Restricted, Says Authority NAPIER, June 21. This is not time to induce people to engage vehicles for pleasure, when the Government is trying to conserve petrol; these special tours should be restricted just now,” said Mr. J. P. Skogluud, No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, when applications came before him in Napier for an amendment to passenger-service licences held by the Hawke’s Bay Motor Company, Ltd., by way of a reduction in the licence fare by 20 per cent, from May to October 31 in the case of the NapierWairoa, Napier-Wairakei, and WairoaWaikaremoana services. This was to comply, it was stated, with a scheme proposed by the Tourist Department to induce traffic on these routes during the quieter period of the year, and thus provide cheaper holidays for people when the tourist trade was slack. It was pointed out, in reply to Mr. Skogluud, that special cars would not be run; passengers would travel ou ordinary scheduled services. The Railways Department had already adopted the scheme. Mr. Skogluud said he would have to make inquiries into the proposals, and would therefore reserve bis decision on the applications.
