NOW ALMOST FREE OF SNOW
Ranges Of The Wairarapa SEVERITY OF FROSTS NOT REDUCED Dominion Special Service. MASTERTON, June 18. For some weeks no snow has fallen in the ranges behind Masterton and the Wairarapa plains, and though the weather generally has been far from mild the snow has been gradually disappearing. This afternoon the ranges were practically free of suow except for a light beading along the shady sides of ridges and in a few deep gullies. The disappearance of the snow has not tended to reduce the severity of the frosts experienced by the district. <Ten-degree frosts have become almost commonplace and a morning without a frost a rarity. This would cast some doubts on the accuracy of the widely held belief that the severity of the frost is determined by the accumulation of snow in the ranges.
