WELLINGTON BRIDGE CLUB
The programme of competitive bridge tournaments at the AVellington Bridge Club for the HMO season began recently with the individual ladder tournament, which was well contested. The winning pairs for the first night were Airs. IL B. Hornibrook and Airs. C. L. Petry (N.S.), and Airs. AV. E. Rawson and Airs. Gibson Stott (E.AW), and for the second night. Alessrs. A. T. Duncan and G. Roper (N.S.) and Airs. J. Forster and Aliss R. Kirwan (EAV.) Airs. A. T. Duncan and Airs. E. Koefed won the trophies for improved ladder percentages on the second night’s play. On the first round of the yankee teams-of-four tournament the winning teams were Air. Ashley Duncan’s (Airs. Duncan, Dr. and Airs. J. Hutchison), Airs. R. Page’s (Airs. 11. 11. Parkinson, Airs. A. Hodsdon, and Aliss F. Davis), and Air. H. Wilkinson's team (Airs. AVilkinson and Air. and Airs. E. Hogg). Recreation evenings held in January and February resulted in goblets being won by Airs. Ashley Duncan and Air. C Joplin (N.S.) and Aliss C. AL Bunny and Air. AV. B. Rainey (E.AV.) ; Airs. E. AlcKay and Air. J. C. Schneider (N.S.) and Airs. J. Brodie and Air. L. Schneiderman (E.W.) ; Airs. P. Rose and Airs. R. S. Alclnnes (N.S.) and Airs. G. F. Jackson and Airs. C. Joplin (E.AV.) ; Airs. P. Rose and Airs. E. Al. Sampson (N.S.) and Airs. R. Page and Aliss K. Williams (E.AV.)
AVallaceville Institute. Alenibers of the AVallaceville AVomen’s Institute field their first meeting for the year recently, Airs. Watt, vicepresident, presiding over a good attendance. Nominations were received for the coming election. There was a good response to the appeal made for parcels for the soldiers overseas. A beautiful vase was donated by Mr. AV. Gorrie. to be competed for each month. Results of competitions for the afternoon were: Novelty competition. Mrs Hardy: musical game, Airs. Anderson. Community singing was enjoyed and afternoon tea was served l,y Ute hostesses. Mesdames Aloir, McArley, More and Alorley.
