Gisborne Ewe Fair
Dominion Special Service. GISBORNE, January 31. An entry of 14,400 sheep was forward at the second ewe fair conducted in Gisborne this season. Young sheep brought brisk competition, largely front outside buyers, but values for the older lots were not up to expectations and were below the recent rates of the large up-country sales. Fat ewes were not wanted, probably because of the very dry conditions. Prices are: Two-tooths, tops, 27/6 to 29/4, good 24/- up; four-tooths 25/10 to 26/1, medium 20/1; five-year ewes, 17/to 22/9 ; six-year ewes, good, 15/- to 16/1; forward fattening ewes 9/-, in store condition 7/6.
