Big Increases In Britain

(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 19. Speaking at the inauguration of the first Area Committee set up, which includes representatives of employers and workers together, to advise the Ministry of Supply, the Admiralty, and the Air Ministry on local matters connected with war production, the Supply Minister, Dr. Leslie Burgin, mentioned that in three years from 1936 the number of firms engaged in munition work increased from a dozen or so to about 1000. In the field of general stores,, clothing, and equipment for the. fighting services the number of firms with Government contracts three years ago was about 600, whereas today it was over 3000.
