Hospitality In Palmerston North a PALMERSTON N„ January 5. More than 1000 people assembled at the station to extend welcome io officers find ratings of H.M.S. Ramillies who, accompanied by the ships band, passed through Palmerston North en route to Wanganui. Au impressive feature was the orderliness and discipline of the sailors. The Palmetstoii North City Council sent down to the train as a gesture of hospitality a pie. for tach man and 3o dozen bottles of beer. Full justice was done to these, in addition to supplementary refreshments obtained. The sailors were in demand for the signing of autograph books, and the bearded appearance of some of the young ratings attracted attention. The M.P. for Palmerston North, Mr. Hodgens, the Hon. R. Mawhete and Mr. K. A. Henderson, president of the Chamber of Commerce, with representatives of the city council, were on the platform to greet the visitors. The mayor, Mr. Mansford, was unable to be present. There were cheers and handshakes for newly-made friends when the train drew out.
