DEFENCE MEASURE

Britain dosed liong Kong harbour as a "necessary defence measure" after an offshore patrol had sounded an alarm, the cause ol which is not disclosed. Ships of all nationalities are forbidden to enter or leave, pending further orders.
The Admiralty also withdrew two gunboats from the Yangtze patrol, leaving only three of the original 13.
According to a statement by the Admiralty. following the withdrawal of five gunboats from the-Yangtze patrol in October and of another throe last month, i lie British Government lias now decided to lay up two of tile three gunboats on the upper Yangtze, states an official wireless message.
