Harper And Wyatt Win Pairs ALL-KARORI FINAL In a game which, despite one-sided scoring, abounded in interesting play and keenly contested heads, IL F. Harper and J. 11. Wyatt (Karori) beat two clubmates, 11. L. I’. Dyett and W. Gilbert, in the final of the Wellington New Year pairs bowling tournament. All the postsection play was held at the Hataitai green yesterday, and conditions allowed players to show their best form, there being neither wind nor a hot sun, and a little grip in the green. The scores in the final would have looked much less unfavourable to Gilbert had he not suffered at least one stroke of bad luck which was the direct cause of points going to Wyatt. Gilbert was four down on the board and had sufficient counters in the fifteenth head to make him one up when Wyatt with his last bowl played to save, but the bowl ran narrow into the head, wicked back ami stopped the shot. A three from the sixteenth put Wyatt eight up with five ends to play. Gilbert held Wyatt over the remaining ends, but the result of the match was already apparent. Nevertheless, the steady play by the leads and the skilful play of the skips held the attention of the spectators right to the twentieth end. The score was then 19-10, and the last end was not played. Wyatt beat Lawrie in one of the semifinals by one point. At the tenth end the score was 6-12 against Wyatt, but he brought it to 17-17 with one eml to play. Wyatt’s lead drew the shot six inches in front of the jaek. Lawrie’s first bowl ran between the shot and the jack, and he drove with bis last but missed In the other semifinal Gilbert was one point to the bad on the eleventh end, but, with the aid of a six, was seven up with 15 ends gone.
