BEAU VITE AGAIN

Beaulivre Beaten In Clifford Plate GLADYNEV SUCCEEDS Lou Rosa Captures Royal Stakes Dominion Special Service. AUGKLiVND, January 2 Though the attendance of 16,060 at the fourth day's events of the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting today «as about the .same as for the corresponding day last year, the totalizator turnover of £71,-76/10/- showed an increase o. £l2 731/10/-. The total turnover lor the four days waw £369,848. compared wnb £319,502 last year Kathbella Nicely: After being the early leader, aud then following Pirate King into the straight. Kathbella ran on attractively to win the Goodwood Handicap, for which she was second in doiTuind to Lull Hund. Katiibella was always travelling well, and proved too solid for Vaalso aud liiate King in the last furlong. Vaalso ran one of his best races, being handily placed alt the wnv, and making a determined bid over the last furlong. Pirate King held on solidly for third after making most of rhe running, and Ivy M illonyx was closer in fourth position ill the finirii than at any other stage. Paddy the nip and Very Glad performed creditably, and Mintlnw also made a respectable showing. Disdain was well placed most of the way, but weakened in the last furlong. I’nil Hand was never prominent. Lapidarian’s Hurdles. 'The improving La.pidarian, who was second to Clarion Call on the third day, won the Aucklund Hurdles priioticalij from end to end, though he had little to spare from the topweight, Erination. who made a gallant effort under his 13.3. La-pidarian jumped quickly out in front, and rcgis’tered hi.s best performance to date. Erination again proved his class, running to Lapiduriiin at the last fence and appearing the likely winner with hail a furlong to go, when he was just in front. However, his big weight told, and Lapidarian beat him over the last 30 yards. Celtic Lad stayed on best of the otliers for a fair third. Hopalong weakened near the end. after being one of the leaders throughout. Pyrenees also failed to sLay on after being well up all the way. The others were well beaten. Resolute Finish. Getting a run through on the rails in the straight. Sure Pay registered a surprise in the Sylvia Handicap, paying more than a quarter of a century for a win. There was very little room for Sure Pay to go through on the inside of Marshall Hall and Doria, who were disputing the issue at the distance, and it was not till verv close to the post that l)e was able to head them. Sure Pay finished very resolutely. Doria looked like winning about half'll furlong from the post but weakened slightly near the post. Marshall Hull ran another good race and just failed to see it right out. Nightbeam fluttered the hopes of his supporters when he drew almost level with Ute leaders inside the distance, but failed to maintain his effort. Dinkv Di showed plenty of speed out tn front' with Marshall Hall to the turn but failed to run on. Royal Descent did not have the best of the running and Beau Leon was never dangerous. Maori Star was badly left. Favourite Gladynev. On the strength of his good third in the Summer Cup the three-,venr-old Gladynev was made an ench-way favourite for the Nathan's Memorial Handicap, and he duly won, running on very attractively when ritnlleuged by Balinavar in the straight. Gladynev was always prominent and after following Inver in the straight was in front throughout the last furlong. It was a good performance and ho is an improver who is doing better with every race. Balinavar. aftbr being patiently ridden by C. G. Goulsbro. made a game effort in the straight to overtake Gladynev. but failed by three-quarters of a length. Our Jean eamo from n long way back for third and Inver, who made piny into the straight, rail very creditably for fourth. Homily and Blonde Princess ran fair races.' The second faiiey Buran failed to give any trouble, being well back on the outside for most of the way. Cheval de Voice had every chance and was well beaten. De Friend and Dictate shaped respect ably. Won From Behind. It was with a splendid finishing effort on the outside that the favourite Lou Rosa won the Royal Stakes. Lou Rosa was near the rear till reaching the straight, where he eanie very fast below the distance and was always the winner in the last half-furlong. J.on Rosa is a line galloper who should go on to further success. Stylist also finished well lor second and she is evidentlv mi the improve. She appeared to he squeezed tor I'ooin when milking her effort, (frinidorii held on gamely for third alter being one of tile leaders all the way. Queen < ily appeared likely when up in the lend alter passing the distance, but failed to do belter Ilian fourth, weakening in the last 100 yards. Olimpo and lln ppicoat made creditable showings. Sir Cameron displayed speed early and has possibilities when lie is more seasoned. Llandoff also showed pace, Kentucky was handy at the turn but failed to run on. Beau Vite Impressive. Splendidly ridden by H. N. Wiggins, Beau Vite won the Clifford Plate from end to end, again beating the brilliant Beaulivre, who wits installed a good favourite in spite of his beating in the Great Northern Derby. Beau \ ite had a lead of three lengths without nil effort, while the pace was slow early and Wiggins allowed him to stride along lit a good speed in front mid at the suuie time keeping something in reserve. I*. Atkins on Braulivt'e was waiting for a final sprint home and had his mount bandy at Hie turn. Once in Hue for the post Beaulivre chilllengeil and inoiiientm'il.v it appeared as it he would win. However. Beau lite proved tlie better slayer and was drawing away nt the end Io win by hall a length. Beau Vite is a coll of tine physique and is iiudoiibtedl.v better than he revealed in A list ru lilt in the spring, when he did not have the best of luck. Perhaps if lie goes hack in the autumn he will prove a much more formidable rival for Reading and High Caste. Beaulivre's effort on this occasion sl.rengtheued the impression that he is not a good stayer. Beaupartir gave no trouble and was tiring before reaching the turn. 1 Arvakur Again. The four-year-old Arvakur was res|)onsible I'oi' u good perl’ormaiu'e in winning the Bowen Handicap, as he was badly placed early, mid did not come pronlillen , - ly into the picture till the last furlong Arvakur was having his fipirth start at the meeting and he is n gross customer who enn e through his exertions much better than most sprinters. Orwere ran another good race for second, and only

surrendered the lead near the cud, after lookimg the likely winner at the distance. Olympus ran a good race for third, ami Paper Slipper showed his best' form at the meeting l>y finishing fourth. Orate showed up prominently to the turn, and then failed to run on. Bronze Moth, the second fancy, failed to jump out well, and was never dangerous. Brunhild was cut off early, and gave no trouble al terward. Fariand was handy at the turn, but could not go on. Te Monowai was slow away, and Aero King weakened after showing early dash, . Decisive Win. The three-year-old Te Kawiti scored deei.sively in the Grey Handicap from the win favourite Serenata, who made a game effort in the lust half-furlong. Te Kawiti was never far away from the leaders, and he ran on very resolutely iil'ter taking charge near the distance. The winner is a half-brother by Night Raid to Queen City, and looks like making a good performer. Serenata was responsible for a solid performance, and was by no means disgraced in failing to concede 1311 b. to the winner, who looks like making a handicap horse. Starbright ran another solid race for third, being prominent throughout. Royal Message also performed creditably. May Song and Tea Gong lost their chances at. the start by getting away badly. Tellsom ran prominently for seven furlongs and then weakened. Details Of Th? Racing By Telegraph—Press Association. GOODWOOD HANDICAP of £450.
