Threats Not Tolerated
,Sir, —I am a political opponent of Mr. Semple, and have long been in strong disagreement with Ills and his Government’s public works policy, which I consider- in many respects to have been economically unsound as well as wantonly wasteful and extravagant. Notwithstanding this, I am wholehearted in condemnation of those who are stated to be threatening him with violence, and am confident that all decent people of whatever political creed will sympathise with Mr. 'Semple in this respect. I am sure the community generally, and the bulk of the Public Works men thmselves, are in full agreement with his policy of weeding out the “scroungers” (his term) and wasters from the Public Works camps, and for his efforts in this respect the thanks of all are due to Mr. ,Semple. However, I think he can feel assured that one thing the people of New Zealand will not stand for is any trouble of the nature indicated from Communists. —I am, etc., BRITISHER. Wellington, December 8.
