“The Red Flag”
Sir,—Air. John A. Lee states that “The Red Flag is an inspiration to the common man in all countries to throw down tyrants and dictators.” This explains why it is sung in New Zealand, but I’m surprised at Mr. Lee’s admission. Presumably it is sung in Russia for a similar reason.
The good old British flag and its New Zealand counterpart is sufficient for the majority of New Zealanders. —I am, etc., AJAX. Wellington, December S.
Sir—ln the issue of "The Dominion” dated December 8 a letter appears under the above heading, bearing the signature J. A. Lee. In that letter, Jlr. Lee states “The Reg Flag was written by an Irishman.” I shall feel grateful if Mr. Lee would be kind enough to give the name and address of the Irishman who wrote the Red Flag. lam of the opinion it was composed in Red Russia, and afterward translated into the various languages.—l am, etc., ’ AN IRISHMAN. Wellington, December 8.
