The Paris correspondent of “The Times” says that the American Ambassador to Poland, Mr. A. Biddle, has arrived. He declared that in the latter stages of the struggle the whole action of the German aircraft, of which he estimated 5000 were employed, was designed to terrorize the civilian population. At first the German planes concentrated on bombing aerodromes, aircraft factories ami military camps, he said. Afterward, they swept over the whole country working in two shifts. “It seemed impossible to get away from them,” he commented. “My own car was bombed 15 times and machinegunned four times en route to the Rumanian frontier, despite a prominently painted U.S.A, on the roof. I was forced to take refuge in a roadside ditch.” POLISH GOVERNMENT Uncertainty On Future Position LONDON, September 24. The Bucharest correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” states that the Polish Ambassador received an unsatisfactory answer when he inquired the Rumanian Government’s intentions concerning the refugee Polish Government. The Poles have abandoned hope of reestablishing their Government in France. Germany is constantly bringing pressure to bear on Rumania, and Is repeatedly complaining that Polish uniformed officers are appearing in public. Sir Howard Kennard, British Ambassador to Poland, is postponing his departure pending a decision about the Polish Government. MUCH SPECULATION Death Of German General COPENHAGEN, September 24. Berlin correspondents of Danish newspapers are speculating whether General von Fritsch, who was reported yesterday to have been killed in action on the Polish front, had been again in disgrace. It is pointed out that the most scanty news was published in German papers as to what General von Fritsch was doing when lie was killed. At the time of his death he was colonel-in-chief of the Twelfth Artillery Regiment. German papers published the briefest obituary references. PALESTINE JEWS High Percentage Offer Services LONDON, September 24. The Jerusalem correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says that over 25 per cent, of the Jewish population of Palestine have registered for emergency service either at home or overseas. This embraces 135,000 men and women, including 100,000 men of military age, representing 85 per cent of those who are eligible. Several divisions are already training. WAR OFFICE APPOINTMENT LONDON, September 24. A bulletin- issued by the Ministry of Information states that Mr. G. S Szlumper, general manager of the Southern Railway, has been appointed Director-General of Transportation and Movements at the War Office.
