The yarding ot fat cattle at. the Burnside stock sale held today numbered 280, the majority being medium to light descriptions, and they were showing the effect of the winter conditions. There was a keen demand from the outset for all quality beef which was firmer by 10/to 15/- a head. Other grades were easier by 10/- a head. Extra prime heavy bullocks made to £22/17/6, prime £l6/2/6 to £lB/2/6, medium £l2/2/6 to £l4/12/6, light from £B/17/6; extra prime cows and heifers to £l4/17/6, prime £lO/7/6 to £l2/2/6, medium £7/7/6 to £9/~/6, light from £4/17/6. The yarding, oi stores was small, two-aDcl-a-half to threeyear steers making to £B/u/-. A. large offering of 201 3 fat sheep was forward?compared with the 820 of a week ago There was a smaller proportion of prime wethers and ewes, the quality, generally, being poor. A good demand resulted for the few prime wethers that were forward, and these sold firmly, others suffering a drop of 2/- to 3/- a head. August 2. _ Little change was shown in today’s stock market conducted. at Stortford Lodge, last week’s increased prices being well maintained during the earlier portion o'f the selling for pens offered not as heavy tops last week. r lhe yarding, which consisted of 240 head, was composed almost entirely of female cattle. With no ox beef on offer, competition was keen for the tops ot the heifers. Puces for the best pens ranged from £7/10/- to £9. averaging 31/- a 1001 b. Several light pens that were killable brought £4 15/- to £5, and heavy prime pens sold solidly at from £7/15/- to £B/9/-. Good medium pens made from £6/10/- to £7 5/- Many average quality pens which were on ttig light side ranged from £5 to

£6, and very plain pens, light in condition, though suitable as freezing sorts, were as cheap as £3/9/-. Later in the sale an attractive line of well-bred heifers which should kill out as very choice young beef, were offered on account or Whanakino Station, and sold to £9. The local trade was well extended outside requirements for this splendid draft. Young cattle showing quality were not generally so 'well featured, a big percentage of the entry being average lots.. There was again a bright demand for store sheep, both in-lamb ewes and hoggets arousing competition. . Breeding ewes predominated, many entries showing well in lamb, and some were on drop. A line of five-year ewes made & f ew that had lambed realizing 23/-. Mixed aged ewes, four to eight-tooth, wellframed, made 22/7, and pens slightly smaller-framed made 21/3. Late-lambing ewes were slower to trade, specially the in-lamtb pens. Rornuey rams, and aged, in-lamb, and poorly-mouthed ewes, low in condition, sold well at 11/7. Mediumgrown ewe hoggets, in bright condition, sold to 20/-, smaller-grown lots off high country bringing the good figure of 16/3. Forward wether hoggets realized 14/8. The only wethers on offer were smallgrown sheep, grey, in light condition, and off high country, which passed at 13/9.
