Early Pioneer Club Members As Guests At Party

A party in honour of the earliest members, was held at the Pioneer Club yesterday afternoon in connexion with this week’s celebrations for the 30. h anniversary of the foundation of the club. The guests of honour were lormation members, ami those who Joined in the first, live years. These were Miss Richmond, fust president, and hei sister. Miss E. Richmond, Miss Amy Kane, the present, president, who also acted as hostess for the afternoon, Mrs. Harcourt, Mrs. Knox Gilmer, Mrs. Alabin Miss K. Williams. Mrs. Hall, .Mrs. R. C. Kirk, Miss R- Barnieoat, Mrs. Tatum, Miss R. Isaacs, Mrs. A. Cowles, Mrs. E. T. Moore, Mrs. Bethune, Mrs. Vickery, Miss Downes, Miss Hetherington, Miss E. Isaacs, Mrs. Sprott, ami Mrs. Roskruge. Those who were not able to be present but who sent messages, were Mrs. Firth, Mrs. Greenshields, Miss I. Myers, and Miss Phoebe Myers. More than 100 members attended the partv to honour these club “pioneers,' for in those days they were pioneers indeed in this field, the club being .the first to be formed in Wellington. In her welcoming speech. Miss Kane specially mentioned Miss Richmond, who, in’her reply, gave an interesting description of the club in its early days. Other speakers were Mrs. Williams ami Mrs. Sprott.

The birthday cake made to represent the building which is to house the new clubrooms, was a feature of the decorations. and Hie tea, when the foundation members lit the 30 candles in the miniature “roof.” The cake was the complete work of Miss Isaacs.' who conceived the very original idea, and carried it out even to window boxes, traffic signals, policemen, and umbrellas, on what may become the “roof garden” of the new buildings. During the tea Mrs. W. Dunean sang, and Mrs. Goodson and Mrs. Fowles gave duets. The.guests of honour were each presented I with a shoulder spray, and the floral decorations on the tables were again most artistic and beautiful.
