CROQUET CLUB PARTY
Mrs. A. Manton, in the capacity of captain of the Wellington croquet Club, entertained members of the sports committee of the club at afternoon tea at the D.I.C. yesterday. The table was set in a window recess, and was effectively decorated with a basket of sol d’ors. Mrs. Manton’s gesture was very much appreciated by her guests. St. Stephen’s Women’s Association. Miss Ethel Steele presided over the August meeting of St. Stephen’s Women’s Association, held in St. Stephen's Hall, Lower Hutt, on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. J. B. McCallum sang, her accompanist being Miss Leuna Finlay, and Mrs. J. Lopdell gave elocutionary items. Mrs. L. W. Ferguson gave a humorous Irish reading, and Mrs. 11. Cole was also responsible for a reading. Posies presented to the performers were made by Mrs. F. Rogers and Miss B. Allen. The association undertook to raise funds toward better working facilities in the kitchen, and the quotaTias almost been realized. Miss B. Allen was the convener for afternoon tea, Mesdames Auld, Henry, F. Gray and Miss Feist, assisting her.
