Activity Of Island Bay Sub-Branch A provisional committee of the Island Bay sub-branch of the New Zealand Red Cross Society has been successful in organizing classes consisting of 20 women and 12 young men who are being trained in first aid, home nursing, hygiene, sanitation and air-raid and anti-gas precautions. It was reported at a recent meeting that these candidates would sit tor first-aid certificates in about a month. It is hoped to enrol men and women to form other classes to follow oil and thus have the nucleus of strong detachments in the district in the event of any emergency. All shopkeepers in the district, it was stated, were co-operating by enrolling members and collecting lunUS needed for a work of national importance. The election of officers resulted : 1 resident Mrs. C. E. Proctor; vice-presidents Mr. J G. Marshall. Mrs. W. P. Sanders and Miss M. M. Foster; chairman. Mr. 1) P.
