New difficulties have arisen at Tokio, but there is a chance of escaping the present impasse in Moscow, though tact and care are essential. 'The Prime Minister in the House of Commons tomorrow will probably announce that England and France are sending high staff officers to Moscow to begin negotiations for a three-Power military understanding. CURRENCY DISPUTE Deadlock In Tokio Talks (Received July 31, 11.55 p.m.) TOKIO, July 31. The morning newspapers announce that the Anglo-Japanese economic conference has been postponed to enable the Japanese to consider further the deadlock which has arisen over the currency and silver questions. A mooting has been arranged for 4 p.m., G.M.T., to discuss the policing of Tientsin. The British contend that the banding over of Chinese silver has nothing to do with the maintenance of order in Tientsin. The Japanese assert that the former is vital to the achievement of the latter. Following two mass anti-British meetings in Tokio, crowds today demonstrated at the British Embassy. Those taking pant in a procession carried banners, “Withdraw '•Craigie, the Enemy of Asia.” The police made several arrests. TIENTSIN BOYCOTT TIGHTENED Invaders Urge Exodus Of Chinese TIENTSIN, July 30. The Japanese are intensifying the boycott and have urged Chinese residents to move out from the concession. They organized further street demonstrations. JAPANESE MOVE British Shanghai Sector Entered SHANGHAI, July 30. The Japanese without warning made a move westward to between Soochow Creek and the North Station, encroaching on the British defence sector in the International Settlement. They removed the british barricades and built barricades of their own 50 yards beyond the British post. The British troops retired, but later reoccupied the original blockhouse. The Japanese are not manning the new barricades, and therefore there are no signs of friction. They excused their action on the ground of a health inspection in the Chinese no man’s land. Thousands of Chinese fled in panic into the British area as the Japanese advanced. LANDING REPULSED Dynamiting Of Railway (independent Cable Service.) SHANGHAI, July 30. .Guerrillas dynamited the ShanghaiNanking railway at a point 100 miles from Shanghai, cutting off Japanese communication between these cities. It is reported from Hong Kong that Japanese were driven off from the Kongmoon district by forces under General Chang Wai-chang. After shelling by Japanese warships, further attempts to land were made, but all were repulsed.
