DRIVING GOLF BALLS ACROSS ROAD

Request For Prohibition

A request that the council prohibit the playing of golf balls across Whakatiki Road, and that it ask the Waiwetu Golf Club to complete the fencing of the road and keep in repair that portion of the fence which already existed, was mane by the former mayor of Upper Hutt, Mr. A. J (McCurdy, in a letter to the monthly meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council. • • Club members playing on the original nine-hole course were driving balls across the roadway mid footpath to and front the extra holes and greens constructed on the 11 acres. , , . i Mr. McCurdy alleged that his sou and daughter had been abused aud ordered oft the roadway when driving a draft ol lambs over it. Charges had also been collected from ear drivers and pedestrians usiug the roadway. On behalf of his family and other users of the road lie asked the council t.o prohibit the playing of golf balls across the road aud to request the golf club to fence the road. He bau been informed that it was the golt club s intention to remove the fence from the road boundary of the 11 acre accretion area. „ , . , The mavor, Mr. P. Robertson, said it would be ’greatly in the council’s interests if it could be proved that the public road extended to the river. It would facilitate the collection of shingle from the river. . The council decided to look into the points raised.
