HARBOUR BOARD BUILDINGS

Cleaning And Tinting Reporting to the Wellington Harbour Board last night, the board’s engineer stated that with the completion of the cleaning and tinting of the head office and wharf office buildings and of Stores Nos. 11 and 13, the buildings facing the city streets now presented a very good appearance. The next building along Customhouse Quay was Store No. 15, in which was the waterside workers’ waiting-room. By contrast this building looked very dirty. To clean and tint the piasterwork would cost about £270, so with the board’s approval it was proposed to put the work in hand during the next few months. Store No. 17 has very little piasterwork to be tinted, but the brickwork needs a considerable amount of repointing, which would bo carried out in the ordinary course of maintenance, the engineer added. “With regard to the timber stores along Jervois Quay, It is proposed to give them a coat of paint as early as possible in the spring, so that the whole frontage from the railway station to the boat sheds may be looking fresh and clean by the time the exhibition opens.’’
