HOSPITALS DIVISION
Dr. McNickle’s Appointment MEDICAL INSPECTION The appointment of Dr. L. U. McNickle, who has been superintendent of the Southland Hospital for the last six years, as medical inspector of public hospitals, is to the hospitals division of the Department of Health, said the Minister of Health, Mr. Fraser, in a statement yesterday. Dr. McNickle recently obtained leave of absence from the Southland Hospital Board to go abroad, and will take up his new duties with the Health Department when he returns in about six months’ time.
The Minister said his duties would be to visit public hospitals to inspect the medical work and maintain a high standard. Similar work on the surgical side was already being done by a number of members of the College of Surgeons who had undertaken to carry out Inspections from time to time. The Minister said that the department had advertised for a doctor to fill the position to which Dr. McNickle was appointed, and it was pleasing to secure a man of Dr. McNickle’s ability. He was an enthusiastic worker, and would make sacrifices to improve conditions for others.
