OBITUARY

Mrs. F. Bennett The death occurred at- her residence, 41 Everest Street, Khandallah, last week, of an old and esteemed resident, of Wellington in Mrs. F. Bennett. Born in Wellington 78 years ago, Mrs. Bennett, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Barnes Robinson, who settled in Wellington in 1852. taking up farm land at the corner of Vivian Street and Cambridge Terrace. She was married on January 2, 1884, to Mr. Francis Bennett, well known as a

schoolmaster in rhe Wellington edu cation district. The fifty-fifth anniversary of their wedding was celebrated last week. Mrs. Bennett lived all her life in the Wellington province, and wasgreatly loved by a wide circle of friends. She was interested in various charities, particularly the Residential Nursery, the District Nursing Guild of St. John, and St. Mary’s Home, Karori.

Mrs. Bennett leaves her husband, two sons, and three daughters, also three sisters. The interment took place in Karori.

Very Rev. Father P. J. Cooney

The death occurred yesterday of the Very Reverend Father Patrick .7 Cooney, says a Press Association nies sage from Christchurch. Father Cooney, who was parish, priest at Lyttelton for 38 years, had been in failing health for some time. He was one of the best known priests in the Dominion and will long be remembered as a man of scholarly attainments, an able speaker and a controversialist.

Father Cooney was born in Limerick City, Ireland, and pursued bis ee-’ clesiastical studies at Gregorian University in Rome. At the conclusion of his studies he was ordained by the late Bishop Grimes, who invited him to take a post in New Zealand. After holding short ministries in Ashburton, Rangiora and Kumara, he was appointed to Lyttelton Pastorate. charge of which he retained till his death. In the course of his life he made two visits to Europe, in which he included an extensive tour of the Holy Land. Father Cooney was a member of the Diocesan. Council of the Church.
