FOUR MEN INJURED
Railway Crossing Smash
ACCIDENT NEAR OTANE Dominion Special Service. WAIPUKURAU, January 13. Three men are in the Waipukurau Public Hospital as a result of a collision between a goods train and a motor-car at; a railway crossing just north of Otane tonight. Another occupant of the ear is less seriously Injured. The three men, all of whom received head injuries, are:— Constable, Ivan, labourer, Otane, driver of the car. Condition serious. Smith, John, baker’s assistant, Otane, Condition serious.
Spargo, Roy, railway porter, Shannon. Condition not serious.
The other passenger, Rex Alexander Miller, railway porter, Otane, was taken to his home suffering from shock and bruises.
The accident occurred at the Higginson Street level crossing, Otane, at 8.20 p.m. The car was being driven from Otane township toward the junction with the main highway when it was struck by tlie engine of a goods train travelling toward Waipawa on its way from Napier to Palmerston North. Tlie car was carried sideways about 12 feet before being tipped over. It was pract leally wrecked.
The two men who were most seriously 'injured were in the front seat of the car and tlie oilier two were in a dickey seat at the rear.
