ALLEGED THREAT BY GERMANY

Repudiation Of £40,000,000

British Loans

(Received January 13, 10.30 p.m.)

LONDON, January 13.

The “Daily Herald” alleges that Mr. Montagu Norman, Governor of the Bank of England, went to Berlin because of a threat by Germany to force a crisis among a group of private British banks by repudiating the £40,000,000 short term loans owing by Germany unless Dr. Schacht’s refugee plan was supported.

The newspaper adds that Mr. Norman will probably try to launch a deal for assisting the German export trade with the ostensible object of helping the Jews to emigrate. TALKS ON REFUGEES IN BERLIN BERLIN, January 12. The chairman of the International Refugees Committee, Mr. G. Rublee, questioned the President of the Reichsbank, Dr. Schacht, in the course of a (X)-minute interview today to discover whether there was a prospect of the negotiations for a solution of the Jewish problem, resulting in a plan which would be acceptable to foreign countries, after which Dr. Schacht consulted the Government on the points raised.
