Coat Caught In Tractor Shaft
HAYMAKING ACCIDENT
Dominion Special Service. LEVIN’. January 13. Under unusual circumstances Mr. George William Chittick, farmer, aged 28, married, of Heatherlea, near Levin, met his death yesterday. At about 4 p.m. be was cutting hay with a tractor on his farm when his overcoat became caught >n the driving shaft behind the base of the seat, dragging him backward. He fell with great force against the carriage of the tractor and received severe head and back injuries, death being instantaneous. Mr. Chittick had been working the tractor with an employee throughout the afternoon, but. at 3.30 p.m. the employee went to bring in the rows for milking. When Mr. Chittick did not return from the paddock to assist with the milking, as had been arranged, the employee went to look for him and discovered what had happened. There were no eye-witnesses of the tragedy. Mr. Cbittick had been on the farm only about 12 months, having come to the Horowhenua from Lower Hutt.
