COMPARATIVE FIGURES Loss For 36-Weeks Period A. retrograde movement to the extent of £233,781 is shown by the railways working account for the period from April 1 to December 11 last, compared with the result for the corresponding period of the previous year. According to the abstract of the account, published in the Gazette last night, a working loss of £2256 replaces a profit of £231,525 for the corresponding period of the previous year.

Expenditure amounted to £5,440,377, an increase of £530,078. Net revenue for the four-weekly period ended December 10 was £90,265, as against £61,116 in the corresponding period of 1937. The gross revenue was £764,506, compared with £677,498, an increase of £87,008, and gross expenditure £674,241, compared with £616,382, an increase of £57,859.
