KEEN SIGHT SOLD
C. T. Wilson Retained For
Clifford Estate
Dominion Special Service.
CHRISTCHURCH, January 12,
The three-year-old colt Keen Sight, by Nightmarch—Good Sight, has been sold by the estate of the late Sir Charles Clifford. He has not had much racing but a third in the Cashmere Blate at the Grand Natioual meeting was followed by a win at zlshburton in November. He will be shipped by an early steamer to Sydney but it is understood that he will eventually be sent to India. No time was lost in filling the position of first horseman for the team raced from Cutts’s stable for the estate of the late Sir Charles Clifford. The vacancy was caused by the retirement of G. H. Humphries and C. T. Wilson has been engaged to succeed him. Wilson served his apprenticeship in Southland under J. A. Rowlands and he soon made a name as a capable light-weight rider and he has continued to handle his share of winners since he took up residence at Riccarton about two years ago. Before the negotiations which ended in C. T. Wilson becoming associated with Cutts’e stable, the rider had already made some _ arrangements for Trentham, where he will handle some of P. T. Hogan’s horses, also Dictate in the Wellington Cup. A. E. Ellis will be on Wild Chase and A. Stokes on Night Dress in the Cup. L. J. Ellis will ride Defaulter, Paper Slipper and Wild Talk on the first day. A. Messervy has been secured for Phalanx and Mishna, H. W. Hibberd for Dinah Dhn, R. Caddy for Wardress and A. Leach for CourtYard. , ,
Most of the Riccarton trainers who have horses engaged at Trentham have their travelling plans well in hand. A. McAulay expects to leave tomorrow with Dictate, also F. Christmas with the Sandwich Man, Gay Parade and Teak. Those booked for Monday night include: i-I. Cutts, Wild Chase, Trench Fight, Paper Slipper, Counterblast and Wild Talk; F. A. Roberts, Defaulter, Night Dress, Phalanx, Garonne and Capricious; A. J. Martin, Waka and Dinah Dhu; and R. D. Westenra, Wardress. D. Cotton will have to leave Blue Coat at home because of splints troubling him but he will take Density, Grey Night and Jewish Lad. M. Conza hopes to go with Roy Bun and Skyrena, A. McMullan with Court Yard and W. J. McLean with Dropped Catch. Lofty and Good Passage will not fulfil their engagements and Rebel Queen’s- programme is doubtful as she struck herself a day or two ago and has had to be eased up. (Continued on Page 16.)
