VALUE TO ANGLERS

New Road From Taupo To Western Bay PROGRESS OF WORK Appreciative reference was made by a party of Wellington anglers who returned from the thermal district yesterday to a new road that is being constructed betweeu Taupo township and Western Bay. It was claimed that the road would provide access for anglers and visiting sightseers to a part of Taupo which was, during bad weather, rivalled iu the district from the point of fishing and scenic attraction. There had not previously been a useable road to Western Bay and the one now being made by the Government would, when completed, popularly serve its purpose to fishermen and other visitors to Taupo. \ 'Tlie new road from Taupo township to Western Bay is being constructed by the Public Works Department at the instance of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr.- Parry. One mile and a half of the road has been formed and metalled and an additional length of one mile will be completed early in February. Motor-cars can now proceed readily for 21 miles from Taupo township. \ The remaining part of the work is somewhat heavier than that which has been completed, and as apparently difficulty is being experienced in obtaining sufficient labour; a few months will elapse, before the work is finished.

“The view of anglers that Western Bay Road will bo a notable convenience to visitors to Taupo and an asset to the township is shared by the Government," Mr. Parry said in a statement yesterday.
